What does pricing at Ki look like?

Leave your views on traditional pricing teams at the door. As with most things at Ki, we like to challenge the norm for the better. Ki is the London market’s first fully digital and algorithmically powered underwriting platform. We merge the best of high tech solutions and data science, with expert knowledge in actuarial science and deep insurance market expertise. Pricing in Ki blends the expertise of two Pricing teams, to deliver one enhanced pricing view: the Commercial Pricing Team and the Algorithmic Underwriting Team. This blend allows Ki to offer a unique proposition to specialty insurance.

Who are the Commercial Pricing Team?

The Commercial Pricing Team at Ki, though relatively new, plays a critical role in the company's success. Their function can be split into two main areas. First, they are responsible for pricing decisions for all non-Algorithmic business quotes, which includes delegated insurance written on binders and a growing reinsurance portfolio. The team builds, maintains, and oversees pricing models used by underwriters, as well as case pricing the largest and most complex deals themselves. Secondly, they provide more holistic oversight across all of Ki's pricing, ensuring there is actuarial rigour, good governance and a commercial lens is considered across all the pricing models. This is very broad, interacting with the Algorithmic Pricing team regularly, as well as wider stakeholders such as Portfolio Management, senior leadership and external regulators such as Lloyd's.

Who are the Algorithmic Pricing Team?

The Algorithmic Pricing Team at Ki is responsible for building, deploying, and monitoring Ki's algorithm, a key differentiator that has established the company as the first and largest algorithmic carrier at Lloyd's of London. Since Ki's inception in 2020, this team has been central to the business. They manage the algorithm's pricing, which takes policy inputs, assesses risk, and determines line sizes for quoting on open market business - essentially replicating the roles of pricing actuaries and underwriters through code. The team comprises actuaries, analysts, and data scientists, and operates in multi-disciplinary squads within an agile framework, functioning more like a technology company than a traditional insurance pricing team.

Meet some of the team

Lisa joined Ki with the exciting opportunity to build out the Actuarial Function. Her career started on the underwriting side, since then working across many traditional and non-traditional Actuarial roles, both in insurers and brokers. She brings this breadth of market knowledge and passion to embed a best in class mindset to the Ki Commercial Pricing team. The Commercial Pricing Team is unique to the market, collaborating with Algorithmic Underwriting and embedded within Portfolio Underwriting, ultimately to support driving the commercial direction of Ki.

Lisa Renton-Ahmadi

Actuarial Director

Akash joined Ki in May 2024. Initially in the Algo Pricing team, he moved internally to lead the Commercial Pricing team for the 1/1 peak season in December 2024 and has been in this role since. He started his career at Hiscox in 2013, in roles in London Market Pricing and Group Underwriting Insights teams. He left in 2018 to head up pricing and underwriting at motor insurtech start-up Zego, which went on to grow 50x and become the UK's first insurtech unicorn. Since leaving in 2022, he has come back to the Lloyd's market with pricing roles at syndicates such as Inigo and Westfield Specialty.

Akash Mapara

Interim Head of Commercial Pricing

Rav joined Ki in 2025 as part of the Commercial Pricing team. He started his career in Reserving within the Lloyd’s market before spending some time in consultancy focusing on reserving and reporting transformation processes. Rav has since been working in Pricing, across multiple classes of business, with a particular expertise in Delegated Authority and Case pricing.
